One of the very popular term used in the Urban Population nowadays is "Youth Culture". For most of the new comers to the Cities or to the College, there seem to be a pre-defined rules to look Cool among the youth that is Youth Culture. I challenge these thoughts and believe that these so called cultures are not leading us towards the real growth and intelligence in any way.
Let me explain this with an example; Few years ago, I read one of the very popular Novel named “One Night at the Call Center” written by Chetan Bhagat.
Indeed, not to mention that the author is Just Awesome in presenting Ideas in lively
and easy way. Instead, I would like to say that the novel has got a very
important message to the entire youth population. The misconception or vagueness that can be
seen among youths about different matters such as life, happiness etc. needs to
be addressed and this book has done this in a very different way.
Here, I would like to quote some paragraphs of the book for the understanding. It is the conversation between two characters in the Novel. It goes like this-
“On our right side, there was a hoarding of a cola company. A top Bollywood actress
held a drink bottle and looked at us with inviting eyes. Like a fizzy drink was
all it took to seduce her.
Character A: ‘There she is, looking at us like she is our best friend.
Do you think she cares for us?’
Character B: ‘I don’t know. She is a youth Icon’
Character A: ‘Yes, youth icon. The airhead chick is supposed to be our role
model. Like she knows a fuck about life and gives
a fuck about us. All she cares about is cash. She doesn’t care about you or me.
She just wants you to buy this black cola’
‘Even the youth special channel, they don’t care either. They say youth because
they want the damn Pizza hut and Cokes and Pepsis of the world to come and give
their ads to them. Ads say that, if we spend our salary to have Pizza and Coke,
we will be happy. Like young people don’t have a brain.’ They want us to spend
buy stuffs like Junk food, colored fizzy water, dumbass credit cards and
overpriced shoes. The only youth power they care about is our spending power.”
Here, I believe that the message forwarded by the author is Deep and should be
considered by all the youth. So, a generation should understand that the youth are not for spending and chilling as shown in some ads or movies. Rather they should focus on nation building and making the prosperous society through harmony, peace, solidarity and compassion in the heart along with preserving the Cultures and Values that we have inherited through generations.
Thankyou!!
